
Bas van Os is a lawyer specialising in European and Dutch competition law and sector regulation. He advises and assists companies in obtaining approval for complex mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures from bodies including the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), the Dutch Investment Screening Bureau and the Dutch Healthcare Authority. Bas also regularly advises on collaborations between companies. In addition, he has experience in state aid regulation, sector regulation (including aviation and telecommunication) and trade defence law.
Examples of matters Bas has worked on include:
- Advising clients in several European Commission anti-dumping investigations concerning, among others, lysine and choline chloride;
- Assisting with merger control procedures for transactions in the healthcare sector, including dental care, rehabilitation care, mental healthcare and occupational healthcare;
- Assisting with an in-depth Phase II investigation by the ACM into an acquisition in the telecommunications sector; and
- Providing competition law advice to companies active in various sectors including agriculture, construction and healthcare.
Bas was admitted to the Dutch Bar in January 2024. Before joining the Bar, he was affiliated with Maverick Advocaten for two years as a junior associate and paralegal. He holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and law from Leiden University, where he also completed an honours programme, and a master’s degree in European Competition Law & Regulation from the University of Amsterdam. His master’s thesis focused on the application of the selectivity criterion in state aid cases.
During his studies, Bas completed an internship at a leading Amsterdam Zuidas law firm and worked at several accountancy firms. He also co-authored the competition law newsletter of the journal Mededingingsrecht in de Praktijk for two years. Bas is a member of the Dutch Competition Law Association.
