Maverick Advocaten in Food&Agribusiness on anti-dumping duties

Cyriel Ruers wrote a column in Food&Agribusiness about the consequences of import- and anti-dumping duties imposed by countries around the world. The Dutch food sector is also affected by these consequences, with China recently launching an investigation into alleged dumping of European pork.

This geopolitical show of strength gives anti-dumping duties a bad name. That is a shame, because they are essential for fair competition’, says Cyriel.

Dumping from countries outside Europe is a threat to European industry, which has to compete with heavily subsidised competitors from outside the EU. To protect the industry, more than a hundred different anti-dumping duties are currently in force, but duties in the agricultural sector are not being applied. In his column, Cyriel therefore wonders whether European farmers and horticulturalists are sufficiently protected by the current regulations.

The entire column (in Dutch) can be read here.
