Maverick Advocaten in FD and on BNR about approval of RTL takeover by DPG Media

Martijn van de Hel was interviewed by the Financieele Dagblad and BNR about the possible approval by the ACM of the acquisition of RTL by DPG Media. After an investigation lasting a year and a half, the ACM appears to be approving the acquisition by the Belgian company DPG Media.

The ACM has made a number of agreements with DGP to guarantee the plurality of the news offering. These agreements aim to ensure that the various news organisations owned by DPG Media continue to operate separately. The board of DPG promises to uphold the obligations regarding plurality in the event of a takeover of DPG.

According to Martijn, this is a surprising agreement, as the Competition Act does not provide for agreements on future acquisitions. This also applies to pluralism. ‘It is impressive that the ACM has managed to lay down both pluralism and the future in the agreements.’
