On 20 June 2025, Cyriel Ruers taught a course on the REMIT regulation, the EU regulation on wholesale energy market integrity and transparency, at Statkraft Nederland. The course is part of the in-depth Energy Law on Location programme, organised by the Dutch Association for Energy Law (NeVER). Participants consisted of lawyers, in-house counsels from energy companies and officials of the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets.
The REMIT regulation came into force in 2011 with the aim of ensuring the correct functioning of the energy markets. In practice, its implementation raises many questions. What is inside information? When can an event have a significant impact on the market price? What to do if a trader unintentionally submits an incorrect bid? Various cases, enforcement by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets, and questions from practice were discussed with the participants.
