Maverick Advocaten in de Volkskrant on monopoly and liability regarding Live Nation/Ticketmaster in the US

According to a federal jury in the United States, Live Nation and its subsidiary Ticketmaster are liable for the damage suffered by consumers due to excessive ticket prices resulting from an illegal monopoly. This could have various consequences for the company in the US, with both a fine and the spin-off of Ticketmaster being possible outcomes.

De Volkskrant asked Cyriel about the significance of this verdict for the Netherlands:

“In Europe, holding a dominant market position is not prohibited in itself. However, abusing that position is, for example by charging extremely high prices or forcing competitors out of the market. If the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) were to rule that such an abuse of power has taken place, it could force companies to split up in order to put an end to the infringement,” says Ruers.
